This standard provides a method for classifying indoor atmospheric corrosion, including determination and estimation of the corrosion properties of metals and alloys in low-corrosion indoor environments. The standard details procedures for deriving indoor corrosion classes from standard specimens (e.g. copper, silver, zinc, steel, lead) and introduces the environmental parameters used to estimate indoor corrosion properties. The new version of the standard adds a reference to the ISO 16000 series and a model for estimating indoor concentrations of contaminants originating outdoors to the previous version. The standard aims to ensure that metals and metallic coatings are subjected to a consistent corrosion classification during storage, transport, installation and handling, thus providing a scientific basis for corrosion protection measures.
