Part 6 of the ISO 4628-6-2011 standard specifies a method for assessing the degree of chalking on surfaces of Paints and varnish coatings using the adhesive tape method. Chalking refers to the presence of fine, powdery loose adhesives on the surface of a coating due to compositional degradation. This standard provides a graphical reference standard and an evaluation method suitable for assessing the degree of coating chalking by visual inspection. This method places particular emphasis on the need to distinguish between true degradation products and adhered dirt when evaluating, especially in cases where the degree of chalking is mild.
