ISO 8502-3-2017 Preparation of steel substrates before painting and related products - Tests for assessment of surface cleanliness, Part 3: Evaluation of dust on steel surfaces ready for painting (pressure-sensitive tape method) specifies a method for assessing residual dust on steel surfaces ready for painting using the pressure-sensitive tape method. This standard applies to the assessment of the average amount of dust and particle size on steel surfaces, providing graphic grades and descriptive grades to describe the amount and size of dust. This method can be used as a qualitative test of surface cleanliness and is suitable for the preparation stage of a surface before the rust class A, B or C as defined in ISO 8501-1. This standard can not only be used for "pass/fail" tests, but also to record surface dust, providing an important basis for the preparation of steel surfaces before painting.
