The ISO 8502-15:2020 standard specifies a test method for assessing the surface cleanliness of steel substrates before painting, in particular the extraction of surface soluble contaminants by acid extraction method. This method is suitable for a variety of surface shapes and orientations and enables on-site detection of acid soluble contaminants on steel surfaces. This technique provides specific point values of contaminants compared to the Miscellaneous method and helps to ensure proper cleanliness of steel surfaces to guarantee adhesion and protective effect of coatings.
