ISO 14680-3:2000 specifies an filtrate method for the determination of pigment content in paints and varnishes. This method determines the pigment content by adding a potassium hydroxide solution to the Coating sample, causing it to solidify, and then removing the solid pigment by filtrating. This method is suitable for Coatings containing carbon black, ultra-fine silica, ultra-fine Titanium Dioxide, organic pigment or polymer dispersion. It is not suitable for many water-diluted Coatings, as these Coatings may condense when potassium hydroxide is added. This standard provides a reliable means of analyzing pigment content in Coatings for quality control and product analysis in industrial and laboratory environments.
