ISO 6270-1-1998 "Determination of moisture resistance of Paints and varnishes, Part 1: Continuous condensation method" aims to assess the durability of coatings in harsh condensate atmospheres. This method applies to coatings on porous substrates (e.g. wood, plaster boards) and non-porous substrates (e.g. metals) and aims to reveal defects that coatings can have in this humid environment, such as blistering, staining, softening, wrinkling and embrittlening, as well as substrate deterioration. This standard describes the pretreatment and exposure conditions of specimens and highlights the performance of coatings under condensation conditions. It does not provide coating life prediction data, but provides consistent test conditions and procedures for evaluating the weathering resistance of coating systems.
