ISO 11997-1-2017 "Paints and varnishes Determination of resistance to Cyclic Corrosion conditions, Part 1: Wet (salt fog)/dry/wet" is an international standard for evaluating the resistance of coatings to Cyclic Corrosion under simulated wetting, drying and humid conditions. This standard applies to all types of paints and varnishes to assess the durability of coating samples under laboratory conditions by exposing them to specified environmental conditions, such as salt fog and Humidity cycling. The revised third edition adds references to the Miscellaneous ISO standard, such as methods for evaluating scribe and filamentous corrosion. The standard emphasises differences between laboratory tests and actual outdoor exposure, but provides an effective quality control method that is particularly useful for performance comparison of coatings and assessment of maintenance masses. The use of ISO 11997-1 helps manufacturers and test laboratories assess the durability of coatings to ensure their Reliability and durability under various environment conditions.
