This standard specifies a method for the determination of mercury content in copper concentrates, which is suitable for the determination of mercury content in the range of 0.0001% to 0.050%. Absorbance of mercury vapor is determined by Beer's law using cold atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) method, using the absorption characteristics of mercury atoms to 253.7 nm ultraviolet light. Samples are analyzed by aqua regia and reduced to metallic mercury under acidic conditions. Then air is used as a Developing solvent at room temperature. The generated mercury atoms are introduced into a measurement instrument for analysis. This method is suitable for the accurate determination of trace mercury in copper concentrates.
