This standard specifies a method for the determination of potassium and sodium in mg and magnesium alloys by flame atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS), with a determination range of 0.0010% to 0.0200%. After the sample is dissolved with muriatic acid, the content of potassium and sodium is determined at wavelengths 766.5 nm and 589.2 nm, respectively. This standard applies to the accurate determination of potassium and sodium content in raw mg ingots to ensure material quality control.
