The GB/T 8914-1988 standard applies to the determination of mass concentration of mercury in the atmosphere of residential areas. Gold amalgam enrichment-atomic absorption method is used. This method generates amalgam by contacting trace amounts of mercury in the air with gold film, and then releasing atomic mercury at high temperature. Quantitative analysis is carried out by atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS). This standard provides the Sensitivity of detection, the lower limit of detection and the measurement range, which is suitable for air mass monitoring, especially in mercury pollution control and assessment. In addition, the standard also details the principle of the test, reagent formulation, and possible interference and its elimination method.
