This standard specifies a specific method for the determination of germanium content in tungsten and molybdenum ores by Inductance-coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry. The applicable range for the determination of germanium content is 0.2 μg/g to 300 μg/g, and the detection limit of the method is 0.063 μg/g. The sample is first melted at high temperature by sodiumhydrate and extracted with water. The germanium is present in the solution in the form of germanate. The sample solution is then treated by ion exchange Resin to remove sodium salt and part of molybdenum, and finally analyzed by Inductance-coupled Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer (ICP-MS). Mass Spectrometer performs elemental separation and quantification based on Mass charge ratio, and combines calibrated Linear dispersion to calculate the content of germanium in the sample.
