This standard specifies the safety requirements and test methods for lithium-ion batteries and battery packs for portable electronic products, covering laptops, mobile phones, portable audio/video products, etc. The standard applies to lithium-ion batteries in various portable electronic devices to ensure their safety under normal use and changes in the environment. This document includes environmental testing of batteries (e.g. Impact, vibration, low pressure and temperature changes) and other safety performance tests. The standard does not apply to lithium-ion batteries for electronic cigarettes. Additional requirements may be required for lithium-ion batteries for specific occasions (e.g. vehicles, medical devices) and special fields (e.g. subsea operations).
