This standard specifies a method for the determination of rare earth impurities in rare earth ferroalloys using Inductance Coupled Plasma Emission Light Spectrometry (ICP-OES) for lanthanum ferroalloys, cerium ferroalloys, gadolinium ferroalloys, dysprosium ferroalloys, holmium ferroalloys and yttrium ferroalloys. Methods include dissolving of the sample, correction of matrix effects, and excitation of argon plasma Light source. The mass fraction of rare earth impurities is accurately determined by correcting matrix effects in dilute muriatic acid or dilute nitric acid medium and using standard Linear dispersion method for Light spectrum determination.
