This standard specifies an empirical test procedure for evaluating the performance of coatings of Paints, varnish and related products against cracking or detachment from metal substrates after gradual deformation under standard conditions. For single coatings or composite coating systems, each coating can be tested individually or evaluated as a whole as required. Test methods include "pass/fail" according to the specified depth of indentation, or gradually increase the depth of indentation to determine the minimum depth of cracking or detachment from the substrate of the coating, providing a scientific basis for the performance evaluation of coatings.
