This standard describes a method for evaluating petroleum wax Hardness by measuring the depth of penetration of a standard needle into a wax sample. It is suitable for petroleum waxes with an penetration value of not more than 250 1/10 mm, and can be used for the determination of Fischer-Tropsch wax, synthetic wax, and biological wax, but does not provide precision data for the latter two. The standard provides a uniform test method and standard for the determination of Hardness of petroleum wax and related products, which is suitable for quality control and research analysis.
