GB 12378-1990 "Methods of Analysis of Polonium-210 in Water Eletroplating Sampling Method" standard specifies a specific method for analyzing Polonium-210 from a water sample. Sample Handling involves adjusting the water sample to a ph value of 2 with muriatic acid and letting it stand for 12 hours. Next, sampling and settling treatment by adding potassiumhy permanganate and ferric chloride, followed by adjusting the ph value to 8.5 by sodiumhydrate. After the Sediment has been filtrated, it is washed with muriatic acid and dissolved, and finally the solution is treated in a constant temperature water bath and Eletroplating is performed with copper sheets. After the copper sheet is dried, a low background α measurement instrument is used for count rate measurement to analyze the content of Polonium -210 in the water.
