The QBJ type coating cupping Tester designed and manufactured according to the international standard ISO1520 and national standard GB9753-88 is suitable for evaluating the coating (single layer or supporting system coating) of paint, varnish and related products. Under the experimental method specified in the standard, The indentation test is carried out to make it gradually deform, and the performance of the coating's resistance to cracking or separation from the metal substrate is evaluated to pass or fail the coating. The indentation depth can also be increased gradually to determine the minimum depth at which the coating just cracks or begins to detach from the substrate.

1. Preparation of test pieces
(1) The test piece is square, and its size is 70mm*70mm*0.3mm~1.25mm
(2) The material of the test piece should be polished steel plate and meet the requirements of GB9271, and the test piece should be flat and free of deformation.
(3) Prepare the coating on the test piece according to the standard requirements, dry it, and measure its thickness. In an environment with a temperature of 23±2°C and a Relative Humidity of 50±5%, it can be put into the test after at least 16 hours of state adjustment.
2. Operation method
(1) Test on one-sided coated panel: ——Automatic zero adjustment
Turn the handwheel of the testing machine in the downward direction (clockwise) to the bottom, loosen the clamping device on the upper part of the testing machine, and insert the single-sided coated test plate with the metal side down and the coating side up into the crack on the upper part of the testing machine , and align the punch with the central axis of the test piece, and tighten the compression device. Press the red reset button of the meter once, and the display will show zero. Turn the handwheel in the upward direction (counterclockwise) at a speed of 0.2±0.1mm/s (that is, 2~3 seconds per circle). When the reading reaches about 0.40mm, the punch hits the metal surface of the test plate, and the display automatically displays zero, and the red light of the instrument is on at this time. Continue to turn the handwheel, and the reading on the display will be the rising height, that is, the indentation depth, which cannot be reversed in progress, otherwise the reading will be inaccurate.
(2) Test on double-sided coated panels——manual zero adjustment
Turn the handwheel of the testing machine to the bottom in the downward direction (clockwise), loosen the clamping device on the upper part of the testing machine, insert a random zero-adjusting steel plate into the crack on the upper part of the testing machine, and tighten the clamping device. Press the meter's red button once to make the display show zero. Turn the handwheel in an ascending direction (counterclockwise), and slow down when the reading approaches 1.80mm. When the red light of the instrument is on, that is, when the display is zero, stop turning the handwheel. Loosen the pressing device, then reset manually (press the red button of the meter), turn the handwheel in the upward direction at a speed of 0.2±0.1mm/s, and the display reads the rising height, which is the indentation depth.
(3) With corrected eyesight or 10 times magnifying glass, check whether the coating on the test piece is cracked or separated from the substrate.
(4) The above procedures should be carried out on two separate test pieces. If the results are different, supplementary tests should be performed until the results of the two test pieces are consistent. If cracks appear in the substrate, the test result is invalid.
