The standard specifies a method for determining the fineness of grinding Paints, varnishes and Printing inks using Fineness Gauge. It is suitable for all types of liquid coatings and related products, but not for products containing flake pigments. The principle is to drop the sample into the deep end of Fineness Gauge with wedge-shaped grooves, scrape it uniformly with a Drawdown blade, and observe the micron scale corresponding to the dense appearance of particles.
