This standard specifies a general method for the determination of total nitrogen content in inorganic chemical products by distillation-acid-base Titrimetric method. This method is suitable for the determination of the total content of nitrate nitrogen and ammonium nitrogen in inorganic chemical products, and the scope of application includes the determination of constant and semi-trace nitrogen. The process involves reducing nitrate nitrogen to ammonium nitrogen in alkaline medium, evaporating ammonia gas by distillation method, and absorbing it in excess sulfuric acid solution. The amount of ammonia gas is back-titrated by methyl red-methylene blue mixed indicator solution, and sodiumhydrate standard solution is used as titrant. The standard also includes safety tips and reagent requirements to ensure that operators take necessary safety measures when using corrosion reagents.
