This standard specifies two methods for the determination of sulfur content in ferrochromium and silicochromium alloys: the infrared absorption method and the combustion neutralized Titrimetric method. The infrared absorption method is suitable for sulfur content in the range of 0.0050% to 0.070%. The sulfur dioxide produced by combustion samples in a high frequency induction furnace is measured in an infrared analyzer to determine the sulfur content. The combustion neutralized Titrimetric method is suitable for sulfur content in the range of 0.0050% to 0.120%. The sulfur content is determined by the method of chemical titration. The standard contains specifications of the required reagents and materials to ensure the accuracy of the determination.
