This standard specifies a method for the determination of iron content in steel and alloys by titanium trichloride-potassium dichromate Titrimetric method. It is suitable for the determination of iron content in the mass fraction range of 0.50% to 8.00%, especially for superalloys and precision alloys. The method uses muriatic acid-nitric acid mixed acid to dissolve the sample, separates iron by ammonia water settling, and then reduces ferric to ferric divalent with titanium trichloride and titrates it with potassium dichromate. The standard specifies accurate operation steps and required reagents to ensure the accuracy and Reliability of the test.
