The basis of the cylindrical mandrel flexure Tester test is to determine the smallest diameter mandrel that the coated sheet can bend, with no signs of cracks and/or loss of adhesion.
Bend the coated plate 180° over a period of 2 to 3 seconds, and if there are no signs of failure, bend the new coated plate on the next smaller diameter mandrel, repeat the test on the smaller diameter until failure is observed.
Failure can be observed by observing the color change, followed by cracks and/or signs of loss of adhesion.
When determining the smallest diameter mandrel, the panel can be bent without failure, while the next smaller diameter mandrel, in the event of coating failure, a pass/fail criterion can be defined for quality control.
