The ASTM D6484/D6484M-23 standard specifies a test method for determining the open-hole compressive strength of high-modulus fiber-reinforced multidirectional polymer-based composite laminates. This method is suitable for composites reinforced by continuous or discontinuous fibers (tape or fabric), and the laminate needs to be symmetrically equilibrated in the test direction. The test evaluates the compressive performance under open-hole conditions by applying a uniaxial compressive load to the laminate with a central hole. The standard also provides two test procedures (hydraulic wedge clamping and flat platen loading), and describes in detail the specimen preparation, clamping requirements, and data processing methods. The standard provides an important basis for the design and evaluation of composite structural parts in aerospace, automotive and other fields.
