The TAPPI T 569 standard specifies a method for the determination of the internal bond strength of paper, Cardboard and pulp, using a Scott type test. This method evaluates the bond performance between paper or Cardboard layers by measuring the tensile strength of the sample in the Z-axis direction. During the test, the sample is clamped in a specific device, and the Z-direction destruction of the sample is caused by the energy generated by the impact of the pendulum. The required energy is measured to evaluate the internal bond strength. The standard applies to single-layer and multi-layer paper, Cardboard, including Spreader paper and paper and Cardboard covered with synthetic polymer. Internal bond strength is critical to the processing performance of multi-layer paper and Cardboard, and bond strength that is too low or unevenly distributed can lead to processing difficulties or product mass issues.
