The ASTM G14-04 (2018) standard specifies a standard test method for the resistance of pipeline coatings to Impact, known as drop weight test. This test method is designed to evaluate the ability of pipeline coatings to resist mechanical damage during transport, handling and installation. By applying a specific weight of Impact force, the test determines the amount of energy the coating can withstand prior to rupture. This provides a systematic approach for the selection and evaluation of coating materials, ensuring that they can meet safety and functional requirements in practical use. This standard has been developed in accordance with World Trade Organization standardization principles and aims to promote uniformity and Reliability of the mass of intermediate coating materials traded globally.
