This standard describes a method for the determination of hexavalent chromium in liquid or powdered Paints using the diphenylcarbazide Spectrophotometric method, spectrophotometry. This method is suitable for coatings with hexavalent chromium content in the range of 0.05% to 5% (m/m), muriatic acid extracts involving the pigment part of the liquid Coating or powder coatings. This method is the adjudication method in the case of a dispute and requires that the extraction procedures of ISO 6713 be followed. The standard aims to ensure the accurate determination of hexavalent chromium content in Coatings to meet safety and mass requirements.
